The societal view of a woman that has it all in life, is applicable if she is attractive, intelligent, and wealthy. Little girls are introduced to this concept with toys they play with and the cliche bedtime stories they are told continually that soon become memorizations. Everyday many girls are fighting to be the prettiest in society both literally and figuratively. Especially now with the increase in social media platforms launching everyday. If a young girl or boy is not raised to feel confident in who they are as a person, being on social media could take a negative role in their lives.

Social media such as Instagram is a platform where people make accounts and post pictures of themselves in order to receive likes from their followers or other people. If you think about it this way, it is a place for people to look and watch other individuals lives and lifestyles and become infatuated or obsessed in wanting to be like or look like that person they follow. Meaning he or she will do any and everything in order to be perceived like another person. Why can’t we all just be ourselves?

If you let it take control of how you live your life, social media can quickly become a very negative influence.

Some individuals let social media take hold of their entire lifestyle. Social media should not have the power to make someone feel less confident or insecure about their bodies. Instead it should be a positive platform where individuals are lifting one another up and not trying to tear one another down just because they do not look like the women on Instagram.
